Cyber shield strengthened for J&K in national push: GoI | KNO

Srinagar, Mar 24 (KNO): The Government of India Tuesday said that multiple measures have been put in place to strengthen cyber security across the country including in Jammu & Kashmir, as part of efforts to build a ‘Cyber Secure Bharat’. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the Reserve Bank of India was reviewing cyber threats continuously and has directed the banks to adopt robust security systems, like ‘security by design’ in mobile and UPI applications. He said banks have been advised to use advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for real-time monitoring of transactions and detection of suspicious activities, particularly the mule accounts used by cyber criminals. The Minister further informed that the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre has been set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs to tackle cybercrimes in a coordinated manner. He added that the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and helpline number 1930 have been made operational to assist citizens in reporting cyber frauds. As per the government data, the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System has helped save more than Rs 8,690 crore across over 24.65 lakh complaints till January 31, 2026. The government has also established a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre where banks, telecom service providers and law enforcement agencies work together for immediate response against cyber frauds. The Minister said that CERT-In, the national agency for cyber security incident response, continues to issue alerts and advisories, conduct mock drills and training programmes for States and UTs. He added that Jammu & Kashmir has also participated in the ‘Cyber Bharat Setu’ programme aimed at promoting cyber security awareness and strengthening preparedness across regions—(KNO)
